Sydney hosted the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week from 28th April to 2nd May 2008. The collections for Spring/Summer 2008/2009 were showcased in this event. Sydney donned the mantle of fashion capital of Australia and showed the world that it is indeed the Australian fashion capital. RAFW or Rosemount Australia Fashion Week is the leading fashion event in Australia and attracts world’s top international models, best designers and fashion buyers. Sydney hosted many glitzy events, extravagant parties and flamboyant runways during the RAFW. Many celebrated world designers were present for the fashion week and the designers, mainly from Asia Pacific countries and Australia showcased their collection.

The various designers and brands that were the highlights of the RAFW include Kirrily Johnston, One Teaspoon, Alex Perry, Zimmermann, Easton Pearson, Sass & Bide, Michelle Jank, Hotel Bondi Swim, Illionaire and Nicola Finetti in addition to many more. This fashion week has indeed been a bumper event owing to the strong international presence and spectacular shows. The world has surely taken a note of this event. RAFW gives a chance to the budding designers to showcase their collections and clothing lines. Upcoming designers took to the fashion shows in the New Generation 1 and their clothes were simple yet eye-catching. The second batch designers of New Generation 2 also presented a beautiful collection full of fun, frolic and youthful look.

One Teaspoon presented the seventies look with mix and blends of purple and pink tie-dye designs in single pieces, wide legged trousers, dresses, dip dyed miniskirts and skinny jeans. The Holet Bondi Swim put up excellent collection of swimwear, very sensual and glamorous. Tina Kalivas, the Greek Australian designer made quite an impression with her label in the RAFW. The leg show was limelight of many labels like FashionAssasin. They designed extremely short dresses for women in the tube style of gold lame. Alex Perry’s collection has been quite simple, glamorous and gorgeous and well received by majority.

Kate Sylvester, a famed designer from New Zealand has also showed her lovely collection in the RAFW. Her clothes include T- Shirts with ruffled sleeves, high waist skirts, loose flowing garments, lacy dresses, sashes, badges, bunched material and blazers. The dresses had cute little red colored hearts. The girls wore loosely pulled back hairstyles along with bright blue colored eyes and pink lips.

The final show of the RAFW was the collection of Sabatini White. It was named Moon Goddess and bedazzled the viewers. The Sabatini White dresses were lovely, graceful and beautiful. This year’s RAFW has been very inspiring and interesting. It has given rise to many controversies as well, that of the extra skinny models and so on. Sydney is emerging as a hot spot in the fashion world as the RAFW was well attended by more than hundred buyers and designers from over fifteen countries. There were a number of celebrities in the front rows witnessing the catwalks. Sydney will soon be taking the fifth position as fashion capital of the world.
