
Mercedes Fashion Week held from March 9-13 was ‘the’ show where designers like Ashley Paige, Falguni- Shane Peacock, Alexis Lamontagna, Farah Angsana and others. It may not be as popular as the Milan or New York Fashion Weeks but the world did stop to take notice of these relatively recent designers.
The Collections
Alexis Lamontagna’s collection featured simple lines and clean cuts in classic colours. It mainly comprised of street wear which could be worn to today’s party scene as well.
Ashley Paige is known mainly for her lingerie collection where she has brought a brand new meaning to naughty. Her underwear is the kind which can be worn by the non supermodel types too which popularizes the fact that everyone can have fun! The other lingerie show, Pussycat Dolls, by Robin Antin was fun and exciting with an interesting use of colours.
Bow and Arrow by Alan Del Rosario can be best described as Charlie Chaplin meets Power Woman. The style was a mix of designs from over the decades. Elmer Ave gave a new meaning to grunge while Falguni and Shane Peacockhave redefined what a girly girl should be like with their flowery designs. Farah Angsana floored the audience with her take on the little black dress to her long flowy cocktail gowns while Imasu by Kelly Nishimoto’s ruffles and checkered prints were a little different from the rest. Jenny Han brightened up everyone’s day as she ended her collection with sunny yellows.
Joseph Domingo’s collection featured classic men’s wear and loose shirt dresses for women accessorized by broad, fitted, high waist belts. Julia Clancey went with classic black, whit and purple ruffles, Lauren Conrad, Nicholai, Samora and Octavio Carlin went with Nude colours for their short dresses, daily wear and Black Tie clothing respectively, while Maggy Barry for Xubaz went with wild, flash and fun colours.
Suh-Than had chic and elegant clothing with free falls that looked like it would be comfortable for everyone to wear! Veronika Jeanvie used the most fun, bright and chirpy shades on her clothes which featured boat necks and halter straps and last but not the least, Whitley Kros collection was a true marriage of colours with classic designs.
The Scene
The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is known not only for its fashion but also for the fashionistas that attend. Lindsay Price, Desiree Gruber, Jay McCarroll, Rosalyn Sanchez, Tyson Beckford, Shaun B’Laurent, Shannon Tweed, Niki Taylor and Nicky Hilton were all familiar faces, dressed in true designer, individualistic pieces of clothing, doing the rounds of different shows.
Location
The Mercedes Benz Fashion week was not just held at Smash Box Studios but all over the world. The runway collections in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Berlin are yet to be held.
