Valentine’s Day is just around the corner but February’s cold weather can play havoc with your lips. ? Step 1 Preparation is key. Lips have no natural lubricant so need protecting when it’s cold outside. Apply a nourishing lip balm throughout the day and whatever you do, don’t lick chapped lips – it will only make them worse.

? Step 2 Gently exfoliate your lips every evening using a soft toothbrush. This will get rid of any dead skin, creating a smooth base – totally essential for any shade of lipstick.

? Step 3 Always apply your lipstick using a brush rather than straight from the tube. Not only will this allow you to build up the colour gradually, but you’ll get a much more precise finish and therefore better defined lips.

? Step 4 Remember the classic techniques as they really work. Apply your lipstick, blot with a tissue, then apply again. Then put your finger in your mouth, as this will remove lipstick that would otherwise end up on your teeth.

? Step 5 Don’t forget a finishing sweep of Lipcote. It’s completely transparent so won’t affect the colour of your favourite lipstick at all, but will stop it smudging or transferring onto your glass, your man’s collar………in fact, it will keep your lipstick locked on your lips throughout the evening no matter what you get up to!

Boots has introduced five new brands to its online shop for niche beauty brands including cult skincare lines and luxury body care for its Boots Beauty Boutique

Boots Beauty Boutique is the beautifully ‘boudoiresque’ website for all those ‘beauty addicts’ out there, giving access to an array of the most sought after, exclusive skin, body and hair care brands from all over the world that are not readily available on the high street.

Thousands of customers have already treated themselves to renowned brands such as Bliss, This Works, MOP and Dr. Nick Lowe since the launch of the site in September 2007. But if that wasn’t enough, now there is even more to find in the virtual boutique, from all the far-flung corners of the world.
